Infotechtion prides itself on its expertise to leverage Microsoft 365 (M365) tools to deliver best in class Information Governance to your organisation. Our earlier blog, M365 Information Governance: From Zero to Hero, explored the key elements required when implementing Information Governance in any organisation and provides a tried and tested approach, developed by Infotechtion, to doing so effectively and efficiently.
Today we are looking to take a step back and help you understand industry leading technology, process and adoption approaches we can deliver through M365 and the Microsoft stack.
Microsoft 365 - What is it?
Microsoft 365 (M365) is a cloud-based suite of productivity and collaboration tools that includes a range of applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, as well as cloud-based storage solutions like OneDrive and SharePoint. One of the key benefits of M365 is that it enables users to work together on documents, projects, and other files in real-time, regardless of their location or device.
So where does this fit in with Information Governance?
When companies buy software as a service (such as M365), the only lasting asset to manage is the information.
Effective customer engagement, business operations, and compliance all rely on one thing: effective information management. Organisations use information to add value, minimize risks, reduce costs, and allow the business to identify new opportunities.
Many organisations, especially in the context of covid-19 and hybrid work, have implemented tools which facilitate virtual work and collaboration, without applying the people, process and technologies to underpin their rollout with a clear strategy for Information Governance.
So how does M365 and Information Governance fit together? Welcome to Microsoft Purview.
M365 is designed to support information governance in a number of ways through what is now known as Microsoft Purview, including:
Advanced Security
M365 includes advanced security and compliance features, such as data loss prevention (DLP) and advanced threat protection (ATP). These features help organisations protect sensitive data from internal and external threats and ensure that they are compliant with relevant regulations and standards.
Governance and Compliance
M365 includes dedicated Governance and Compliance Centers, which provide a centralised location for managing compliance-related tasks, such as data retention policies, eDiscovery, and audit logs. These centers can help organisations stay on top of their compliance requirements and ensure that they are managing their data in a responsible and ethical manner
Communication and Collaboration
M365 enables users to collaborate and communicate in real-time, using tools like Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint. These tools include features like version control, document sharing and collaboration, and automatic syncing across devices, which can help organisations manage their data more effectively. These tools are key in delivering the Modern Workplace, enabling virtual and hybrid work capabilities essential for maintaining productivity in the post covid era.
Intelligent Data Management
Intelligent Data Management M365 includes intelligent data management features that enable organisations to automate data retention and deletion policies, as well as classify and label sensitive data. This can help organisations reduce the risk of data breaches and ensure that they are complying with relevant regulations and standards.
